Thiruvananthapuram, March23: The Kerala Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die on Monday following protest from the Opposition LDF legislators demanding action against the ruling front legislators, who had allegedly insulted the women LDF MLAs on March 13 in the House.
Before the commencement of the business, the LDF legislators took out a march to the House raising slogans demanding ouster of the Finance Minister, K. M. Mani. As the Speaker, N. Shaktan, took up the first question listed for the day, opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan raised a three-point charter of demand even as LDF legislators displayed banners and placards.
Mr. Achuthanandan demanded revocation of the suspension of five LDF legislators, stern action against the UDF legislators, who allegedly harassed women LDF MLAs and presentation of budget in the House again and discussion on it.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who justified the suspension, said those who had not done anything wrong cannot be punished and that the UDF legislators had not done anything as alleged by the LDF.
Mr. Chandy asked the opposition to agree for a joint examination of the visuals of March 13 incidents captured by the cameras. The government does not have a stubborn attitude and is open, he added.
Deputy leader of opposition Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the House should take up the adjournment motion given by them. The Speaker rejected the demand and urged the opposition to cooperate with the chair.
The LDF legislators trooped to the well of the House raising slogans. As the commotion continued, the Speaker cancelled the question hour and zero hour and went ahead with the listed business for the day.
Amidst protest and slogan-shouting by the LDF legislators, the papers and reports were laid on the table of the House as directed by the Speaker. The Vote-on-Account and the Kerala Finance Bill, 2015 presented by Mr. Mani were passed without any discussion.
The House approved the resolution moved by the Chief Minister seeking adjournment of the budget session. The five suspended LDF legislators did not come to the House, but sat outside, raising slogans.
The other LDF legislators also joined them after the House was adjourned. Later, talking to the media, the opposition members said they would continue the stir outside the Assembly.
