New Delhi, March 24: In the Sunanda Pushkar murder investigation, police have now found that several texts and BlackBerry messages were deleted from her mobile phones and they are trying to ascertain if they were deleted by Sunanda herself or someone else. Some emails are also said to be deleted from her laptop.

The special investigating team (SIT) of Delhi Police found this information after they received the cyber forensic report of Sunanda’s electronic gadgets which was sent to Gandhinagar-based Directorate of Forensic Science (DFS). Her electronic gadgets were sent to DFS on January 20 this year.

Police sources say they have retrieved some of the deleted information but are yet to find anything specific to the case.

Delhi police chief BS Bassi, said, “We received the DFS report a week ago and are now analysing the deleted information to see whether it was deleted as a routine process or done with a malafide intention. It is volumes of data that will take time to analyse.”

The DFS was asked to examine the contents of her electronic gadgets to find out if any data or content was removed before or after her mysterious death at suite number 345 of Hotel Leela Palace on January 17 last year. The DFS experts were also tasked to retrieve the deleted data if any of the contents were deleted.

Meanwhile, the SIT would again write to Twitter, Facebook, Gmail and BlackBerry to share data related to Sunanda’s social media accounts which the investigators believe were tampered with after or before her death. The SIT wants to establish the identity of persons with whom she was in touch with through her social media accounts.

Asked if Tharoor or anybody else related to the case would again be called for questioning, Bassi said that this decision would be taken as per the requirement of the case.

Delhi Police are also waiting for US’ Federal Bureau of Investigation to send their report on the poison that caused Sunanda’s death. Her visceral sample was sent to the FBI after AIIMS’ doctors had said that the poison could not be detected in Indian labs.
