Tuesday was a big day for the WWE 2K brand. Along with the release of the Path of the Warrior DLC for WWE 2K15 on Sony PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, 2K Sports also announced the upcoming release this spring of WWE 2K for iOS and Android devices.
This will be the first WWE 2K simulation-style game released for mobile devices. Per a press release provided to Bleacher Report, the price point will be $7.99.
Here’s a breakdown of the features we were made privy to via the press release:
- Playable roster of many fan-favorite WWE Superstars, including John Cena, Hulk Hogan, Sting, Triple H, Undertaker, Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt.
– Authentic WWE action, including three match types, full WWE Superstar ring entrances and comprehensive move sets.
– Create-a-Superstar.
– Career Mode.
– Live Multiplayer Matches.
– Unlockable Rewards.
This is a major step for WWE games. It opens doors for the brand that even the NBA 2K series hasn’t delved into. While there is a card-basedNBA 2K mobile game, there’s no sim-style version. Generally, NBA 2Khas broken ground within the 2K Sports family. In this instance, theWWE 2K series is the trend-setter.
Obviously, this is a scaled-back version made appropriate for mobile devices, but there seems to be a good amount of variety for gamers on the go. The control scheme could be similar to the one used for the fantasy-based WWE fighting game WWE Immortals.
In that game, gamers tap and swipe the screens of their mobile devices to perform basic and signature moves.
We don’t know how big the roster will ultimately be. This could ultimately be key to the game’s success. It will be interesting to see if any WWE Divas are included. The current Divas roster is thin in real life. Considering the entire roster for the mobile game figures to be thinner than the console version, it’s a possibility the ladies don’t make the new game’s roster.
That’s purely speculation, but it’s something to watch as more information becomes available.
Ideally, it would be awesome to see the immensely popular and addictive WWE SuperCard mobile game function as a companion app toWWE 2K mobile. Perhaps that’s not in the cards at this point, but it would figure to be an addition that makes sense down the line.
In any case, this is exciting news for WWE fans and WWE 2K gamers.
Following a stellar WrestleMania 31 in Santa Clara, California, and a great episode of Monday Night Raw the following night, the WWE is sending the month of March out like a lion.
