Banglore, March 27: In a surprising turn of events, new evidence suggest that IAS officer DK Ravi, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his apartment on March 16, may have taken his own life after suffering from heartbreak.

Transcripts of WhatsApp messages accessed by Hindustan Times suggest that Ravi was in love with a married female IAS officer and took his own life when his his affections were not returned.

Messages accessed by HT are of a personal nature and suggest deep emotional distress. Ravi’s call records had shown that he had called the woman IAS officer several times on the day of his death.

The post-mortem reports from last week stated that death was due to “asphyxia as a result of hanging” and that no signs of external injury were found on the body.

Ravi’s death had triggered off violent protests in different parts of Bangalore and Kolar, as people pressed for a thorough probe into his death. There were some incidents where protesters threw stones at the policemen trying to disperse them.

Earlier, the state government had suggested that Ravi had a “more than cordial” relationship with the said woman IAS officer. But her husband recently told the Karnataka High Court that the claim was “completely misconceived and vexatious”.

Facing rising public outcry and pressure from Opposition, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had on Monday announced a CBI probe into Ravi’s death, and had asserted that his government never intended to hush up the case or protect anyone.
