Rio de Janeiro, April 1: Fans will be able to use public transport for free during the Rio 2016 Olympics, organisers have announced.
The announcement came after the local organising committee struck a deal with the mayors of the host cities, Rio ticketing director Donovan Ferreti said on Tuesday, reports Xinhua.
Apart from Rio, the Olympics will feature men’s and women’s football in five other cities: Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Manaus, Sao Paulo and Brasilia.
In Rio, fans with tickets will be able to travel to and from event venues by bus, train and subway.
The measure was also adopted during last year’s FIFA World Cup, which featured matches in 12 Brazilian cities.
The Rio Games, the first Olympics to be staged in South America, will be held from August 5 to 21, 2016.
