NEW DELHI — A special team of 40 officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will today begin their probe of the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh. They are expected to reach Bhopal today to begin their investigation and file a report before the Supreme Court on July 24.
The team was constituted yesterday and will be headed by a Joint Director level officer, reported PTI. This comes after the Supreme Court’s order last week directing the investigation into the multi-crore rupees recruitment scam to be handed over to CBI. A large number of people connected to the scam — including suspects and investigators — have died unnatural deaths in the last few years.
While the team consists of officers from various branches of the central investigating agency, the agency remained tight-lipped on the identity of those part of the investigations. However they did dismiss rumours that a Bihar-cadre officer will be heading the CBI team, calling the report “incorrect and baseless”.
